A student can have good attendance and passing grades and still be struggling. By the time a grade drops or an attendance pattern changes, the student has often been dealing with something for weeks. What would it take to hear about it sooner — directly from the student?
Traditional school data is, by design, a lagging indicator. A grade reflects work that's already been turned in or missed. An attendance record reflects days that have already passed. Neither one is built to capture how a student is actually doing right now — whether they're losing confidence in a specific class, feeling disconnected from peers, or quietly struggling with something at home that hasn't yet shown up anywhere a school system tracks.
None of this means grades and attendance aren't useful. It means they answer a different question than "how is this student doing today," which is often the question that matters most for catching a problem early.
Students already know things about their own experience that adults around them don't. A short, age-appropriate way for a student to say "this is harder than usual," "I feel disconnected," or "I need help" — recorded consistently over time rather than as a one-time survey — creates a signal that doesn't exist in a gradebook.
The value isn't a single data point. It's the pattern over time: a student who reports feeling disconnected once might just be having a rough week. A student who reports it repeatedly, combined with a goal-completion pattern that's slipping, is a different and more actionable signal — one a counselor or teacher can act on before it becomes a crisis.
It means a school doesn't have to wait for a discipline referral, a failing grade, or an attendance drop to recognize that a student may need help. It means a consistent way for students to participate in their own growth story — building goals, reflecting, and asking for help — connected to a way for the right adult to actually see and respond to what a student is already saying.
This is the operating principle behind The Kaiden Project™: Build Me™ (K-5), Find Me™ (6-8), and Launch Me™ (9-12) — one continuous K-12 growth record, not three disconnected tools reset every few years.
K-12 Identity Growth Infrastructure™ — a continuous way for students to build goals, confidence, and life readiness, with organized support before a challenge becomes a failure.
